Some of the recent notable developments in the area include: March 2025: Röhm started production at its new methyl methacrylate plant in Bay City, the only C2 based MMA facility in the United States. The 250,000 metric ton plant created 70 direct jobs and reached 75 percent of planned production capacity by November 2025, with full capacity expected in the first quarter of 2026. Late 2025: Houston based Barrio Energy's first 10 megawatt data center project in Matagorda County became operational, with a second site following in early 2026. Both projects connect to the ERCOT South Zone. December 2025: RWE completed construction of Peyton Creek II, a 243 megawatt wind farm in Matagorda County built to supply Microsoft under a 15-year power purchase agreement.
