Q: What changes were proposed to property taxes?
A: Texas governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 2 and Senate Bill 3 in July, outlining a tax cut package for the purpose of reducing the state’s property tax collections by $18 billion. If approved by voters, the plan would lessen individual homeowners’ property taxes, trim obligations for senior citizens and owners with disabilities, and temporarily cap non-homestead property appraisals.
