Support Retail Space Demand

State workforce presence creates tailwinds. As of June, public sector and education and health services employment accounted for 44 percent of total jobs in Sacramento, well above the nationwide share of 32 percent. This concentration should help reinforce local economic stability, particularly as healthcare employment continues to expand amid the metro’s aging population. Additionally, California’s requirement that state employees work in office at least four days per week beginning in early July is expected to increase downtown foot traffic and consumer spending, potentially generating additional demand for retail space through the rest of the year.
