Office and tourism strength aids vacancy in and around Manhattan. Retail vacancy compressed during the 12 months ended in June in Downtown Brooklyn and Long Island City, as well as Downtown, Midtown, and Uptown Manhattan. This broad-based improvement across the metro’s core coincided with an office vacancy decline of more than 200 basis points over the same period, supporting retail demand in these high-traffic corridors. Recent tourism associated with the FIFA World Cup and the NBA Finals likely provided an additional tailwind for retailers in the metro’s most popular visitor-oriented districts.
