Jacksonville Among Nation’s Leaders in Hotel Recovery
as Room Demand Surges to All-Time High
Booking volume aids occupancy. Jacksonville was one of the earliest markets to gain back ground lost during the pandemic, booking rooms faster than many other destinations in the state. Leisure travel to local beach communities, coupled with the return of group events and conventions, significantly benefited key performance indicators last year. The metro was one of just two major markets with an average RevPAR measure in 2021 that exceeded its pre-pandemic level, and this momentum has continued into this year. The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass resumed at full capacity in 2022, lifting hotel demand above 740,000 occupied room nights in March, marking an all-time high for any month on record. Booking volumes remained strong through the first half, helping raise the average occupancy in the trailing 12-month period ending in May to 70.9 percent, only 30 basis points below the pre-health crisis level.
