Houston Hospitality Market Report

1Q 2026

Event-Driven Demand Supports Metrowide Hotel Performance, Broadening Investor Focus

World Cup drives rebound after 2025 reset. Houston’s hospitality sector is set to improve in 2026 as the FIFA World Cup meaningfully boosts demand and helps reverse last year’s occupancy slide. After major weather events displaced households and boosted hotel stays in 2024, the subsequent pullback drove occupancy down by more than 500 basis points last year. Even so, total bookings held near the pre-pandemic peak, limiting the ADR decline and signaling durable underlying travel trends. That foundation should get an added tailwind from Houston hosting seven FIFA World Cup matches in 2026, with NRG Stadium set to draw hundreds of thousands of domestic and international visitors, lifting occupancy and ADR metrowide. This influx should fuel gains across segments, particularly at full-service, select-service, and extended-stay hotels. At the same time, team operations, media presence, and related fan events add incremental support leading up to and during the tournament. Even though the World Cup is a temporary demand spike, the global exposure and related infrastructure investment should strengthen Houston’s long-term positioning as a major convention and sports destination, supporting future RevPAR growth.
