Energy offers growth potential. Edmonton’s hotel outlook remains positive, even as broader economic challenges weigh on performance this year. The energy sector is a key driver of corporate demand, with the city acting as a hub for oil sands operations and infrastructure. The completion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline has supported this trend, as Canada’s mining and oil and gas GDP rose 2.2 per cent monthly in March. A new pro-growth Federal government is also reviewing potential energy projects, which could further boost economic activity and hotel demand if approved. Downtown could benefit from more meetings and events tied to head office activity, while the airport will continue to serve workers travelling to remote sites. More production means more workers – and better hotel performance.
