Midyear 2024

Southwest and Downtown Charlotte
Highlight Metro's Hotel Sector Momentum

Airport hotels observe record performance. Over the first half of 2024, an all-time high of 29.5 million people traveled through the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Concourse A’s recent 10-gate expansion, coupled with the addition of several new flight routes, helped passenger volumes jump 15.6 percent above the same frame from 2023. The travel hub’s increased activity is driving nearby room demand to levels well above pre-pandemic norms, in turn lifting occupancy in the Charlotte Douglas Airport area to a record-high 72.3 percent over the year ended in June. Local hotels are likely to continue building momentum amid another $231 million expansion to CLT's Concourse E that is anticipated for completion in 2025. While a four-year high of 220 rooms are slated for delivery around the airport this year, its rapid growth should keep demand for area lodging options on the upswing for the foreseeable future.
