Atlanta Retail Market Report
Expanding Technology Companies Join Distribution Jobs to Give Retail Market Tailwind
Economic recovery tied to demographics. Although the Atlanta market shed more than 150,000 jobs last year, a stronger recovery than most of the nation is anticipated. Payrolls in some key sectors have already rebounded, including the market’s important trade, transportation and utilities sector. As a key distribution hub for the Southeast, particularly the Port of Savannah, the local economy benefits from an uptick in online retail sales throughout the region. Other employment sectors are slower to return, such as traditional office-using jobs. However, several of the tech giants, including Google and Microsoft, have announced expansion plans in Atlanta’s core office districts over the next few years.
