Atlanta Sustains Occupancy Above its
Long-Term Average Amid Leading Global Travel Metrics
Business and event trips boost hotel demand. The metro was the country’s most visited enterprise-related travel destination in 2024, which should continue to help boost hotel occupancy in business-centric areas near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and downtown. Atlanta is also the 12th-most visited U.S. metro by international travelers. The slow recovery of trips from abroad, however, combined with a falling U.S. reputation, leads to occupancy landing closer to the market’s long-term mean of 62.3 percent than 2018’s record high. This is reinforced by supply trends in the last five years, with deliveries on average 150 percent higher than the 10-year pre-pandemic norm. Still, 2025 will be the fourth straight year where total room demand exceeds 2019’s tally. Barring a greater economic disruption, bookings are poised to strengthen as Delta and Frontier airlines plan to open more than a dozen routes. The metro is also preparing host the MLB All-Star Game and six FIFA Club World Cup matches this year, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and Super Bowl LXII in 2028.
