The facility is licensed for 78 beds and offers nursing home care for people who have a diagnosis of mental illness; i.e., schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder, major depression and those who have an organic dementia (nonprogressive). Providence Living is one out of ten facilities in the state of Kansas licensed as a skilled nursing facility and offering this type of care. The facility was original built in 1964 with renovation completed throughout the years and most recently in 2020 with a new roof and sprinkler system. The building is a “U-shaped” design, single story with approximately 24,819 squared feet on 1.64 acres of land. Topeka is the capital city of Kansas and the seat of Shawnee County. It is along the Kansas River in the central part of Shawnee County, in northeast Kansas. As of 2019 census, the city population was 125,318 (estimated). The Topeka metropolitan statistical area, which includes Shawnee, Jackson, Jefferson, Osagae and Wabaunsee Counties, had a population of 231,969 in the 2019 census (estimated). The median household income within Topeka MSA was $59,567 estimated with median age of 40.5 years. The 65 and over age cohort was 19% (estimated).
