Kevin Smith advises corporate, institutional, and private clients on the acquisition and disposition of office, retail and mixed-use assets. Kevin's team focuses in the Carolinas with specializations in retail, office, and mixed-use assets. Kevin arrived in commercial real estate with a background in urban development, investment banking, and law. He earned a B.A. in Urban Development from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is a member of the Clarence Darrow Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. After college, Kevin started his career as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch and later progressed as an investment banker and eventually co-founded and was a principal for Luther, Smith & Small, a full-service institutional broker-dealer. After selling his stake in the firm he invested much of his time and energy into his private consulting firm, assisting clients with corporate and public finance, asset management, capital raising, and business start-up and development. Kevin possesses more than 31 years of experience across multiple disciplines, including investment sales, brokerage, and advisory services. Through effective negotiation and exceptional market knowledge, Kevin optimizes his clients' real estate portfolio and effectively reduces costs and mitigate risks. He consults with his clients to create and preserve wealth by providing the best real estate investment sales, financing, research, and advisory services available. Kevin has a Real Estate license in North and South Carolina. He's currently pursuing the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation through the National Association of Realtors Commercial Investment Real Estate Council and is a member of the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors (CRCBR). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Gaston and the Metropolitan Board of the Gaston YMCA. He also is a member of the Producer's Circle of the Blumenthal Performing Arts. Kevin played college basketball at Michigan State University where he was a member of a National Championship Team, an All-American and team captain before being drafted by the Detroit Pistons. Kevin is married to Ramada, an OB/GYN specializing in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. They have three adult children, Kevin Jr., Shannon, and Lauren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, travel, attending plays, and watching sporting events.
