James W. Knapp

James Knapp is a senior managing director and founder of The Knapp-Stahler Group of Marcus & Millichap, based in the firm’s Detroit office. Specializing in seniors housing property sales, Jim provides honest, achievable valuations and tailored advisory services to clients throughout Michigan, the Midwest and nationally. His expertise includes market studies, site identification, and property dispositions for a range of healthcare providers, senior living operators, and investors.

With over 30 years of experience, Jim was among the initial senior agents to establish Marcus & Millichap’s presence in Michigan in 1998. He has played a pivotal role in building the firm’s seniors housing and healthcare group. Over his career, Jim has facilitated more than 60 separate transactions involving over 80 facilities and 6,200 beds in Michigan alone, as well as multiple portfolio sales exceeding ten facilities each. His proven track record includes nursing home, assisted living, memory care and independent living property sales across the nation.

Jim holds the prestigious Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and is an active member of the Health Care Association of Michigan and LeadingAge Michigan.
