Andrew Leahy is senior vice president and national director of Institutional Property Advisors’ Multifamily Division. In this role, he leads the strategic direction and growth of the firm’s institutional multifamily platform, utilizing his experience and long-standing relationships built over a 25-year career investing in multifamily and commercial real estate on behalf of both private and public entities across gateway, secondary, and tertiary markets.
Mr. Leahy joins Marcus & Millichap with a proven track record in institutional multifamily transactions, portfolio management, and market expansion across multiple real estate cycles. He most recently served as chief investment officer at CA South, driving the firm’s investment strategy and overseeing portfolio management. He spent nine years at Elme Communities (NYSE: ELME), where he played a central role in expanding the firm’s multifamily platform. Prior to that, he was vice president of acquisitions at The Rockefeller Group, leading U.S. office acquisitions on behalf of private equity vehicles. He began his career as an analyst at The Blackstone Group and later advanced to associate director at Fidelity Investments.
His extensive background partnering with both domestic and international pension funds, mutual funds, insurance companies, endowments, and sovereign wealth funds provides him with a unique insight to how institutional platforms utilize empirical research, conduct underwriting, and set and achieve strategic goals for investing in multifamily assets and portfolios.
Mr. Leahy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Georgetown University and earned a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University with a dual concentration in Real Estate and Finance & Economics and is an active member of ULI and NMHC and previously sat on the boards of the Real Estate Finance Association and the District of Columbia Builders Industry Association.
