Encouraging Full-Service Demand and Pullback in
Overall Construction Bolster Near-Term Outlook

Discounted, high-quality accomodations attract travelers. Contrasting other local hotel segments, Tampa-St. Peterburg’s full-service sector notched a 50-basis-point occupancy improvement during the yearlong span ended June. Amid a period of household budget tightening, this gain suggests the metro’s daily rates may be attracting visitors who are still seeking upscale and luxury rooms. Over the past 12 months, the average price of a full-service stay was $260 per night — the lowest among Florida’s five major hotel markets and a slight discount from the national mean. A recent WalletHub study backs this claim, with the metro ranking as the nation’s fifth-cheapest destination that is also easy to reach out of 100 comparable areas. Tampa’s reputation as an affordable vacation spot with ample resorts is expected to fuel further upward occupancy momentum in the full-service sector during the second half.
