Conferences and trade shows lift demand outlook. Following omicron headwinds earlier this year, business travel resumes a return to historical levels. Boston convention attendance in 2022 is forecast to rise to roughly 90 percent of the 2019 equivalent. Bookings generated by the 20 large-scale events scheduled for the metro’s two convention centers this year will translate to a continued occupancy recovery. The metro’s rate should reach within 10 percent of the pre-pandemic level by the end of this year, aided by a tempered construction pipeline that will minimize new competition for existing hotels. However, 2026 World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium could spur an uptick in suburban hotel construction near the venue.
