Every Seller’s Challenge Getting your money’s worth from the commission you pay: What you think you are getting when you pay a commission to an agent to represent you isn’t always what you get. For many agents in the commercial real estate industry, it has become all to easy for them to put their personal interests ahead of their clients’. Some agents have a history of buying properties on their own or with buyers for which they were paid by the seller. Others make a practice of putting up barriers to cooperation with other agents to limit competition with their own buyers. Some agents even insist on agreements with their preferred buyers: if they squeeze out a “good deal” for that buyer, the buyer will re-list the property with the agent when he/she flips it for a profit.
