Richard is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He graduated with a Master of Science degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California in 1981, and a Bachelors of Science degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1978.

He holds a Florida Broker real estate license.
