Hiu Chan is a vice president investments in Marcus & Millichap’s Long Beach office. In his time with the company, he has earned three National Achievement awards and four consecutive Sales Recognition Awards. Prior to joining Marcus & Millichap in 2000, Hiu worked in various managerial positions in commercial real estate, including asset management, development and financial accounting.

Hiu started his real estate career in 1994 as a controller in a real estate company. In 1995 he helped build a consulting firm with three other senior executives from the company for which he was a controller. While on vacation in Hong Kong, he discovered an exciting opportunity to build shopping centers in China.

As the associate director of a public company in Hong Kong, Hiu became intimately involved in managing the development and marketing of several major properties including a 1.3 million square foot shopping center in Fuzhou, a $300 million mixed-use project in Tianjin, and the largest trade mart in Asia. After the market crashed in Asia, Hiu moved back to Los Angeles, where he worked as an asset management consultant for a REIT and an interim chief operating officer (COO) for a private property investment company.

Hiu graduated Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a B.A. in Business Economics. He is also an alumnus of the University of Shopping Centers and the Southern California Entrepreneurship Academy. Hiu speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, and three other Chinese dialects, as well as conversational Japanese and Spanish.

In his spare time, Hiu enjoys world travel and foreign cultures, and has visited more than 40 countries. He also enjoys photography, having amassed an amazing collection of photos from the many exotic locations he has explored.
